"Commonwealth Games, India's Shame". This was the headline came out in one of the leading newspapers in India, Times of India, a couple of days back. Can India organize the games well? Everyone start to ask this question since the day, it have been confirmed that CWG 2010 will be held in Delhi, India. It is understandable that some of the countries lobbying against India rose this question. But I was really shocked to hear it from our own media, doing the same as well.
There was some negative impacts in recent times, I fully agree. But if we check the history, there was similar cases everywhere, whenever an International sporting event was held. But finally when India stepped in, a lot of people start to feel insecure, both local and international.
Our local media is mostly interested in their circulation, rather than bringing out the good things they come across. There have been a lot of such cases within the country in the past, but when it comes to reporting about an International event, media should have taken some responsibility to keep the Tri-colors of Our Nation fly high. 'Unity in Diversity', this is what we say about ourselves when there is a National Day or Independence day. Unity ends there and only diversity remains. If we ourselves don't respect the pride of our Nation, whom do you think will? Pictures speaks a thousand words. See it for yourself. Delhi is ready to host one of the biggest sporting event.
A lot of athletes from all over the world, came to the support of India, against our own media and still our media only interested in negative things. There was incidents during 2004 Athens Olympics that the Indian Athlete Ms. Anju Boby George had to wash and clean her own room together with the designated cleaners. CWG Delhi doesn't face such conditions at all. Listen to the words of former Olympic Champion Kelly Homes of England, "When comparing to the facilities of Athens Olympics, CWG Delhi is years ahead." And there are many others also joined these days with the support towards India, but our media still not listening.
Shame on you Media!
